I was born and raised in Sarasota, my grooming career started back in 2006. I was attending college to obtain a degree in criminology as working in law enforcement was my dream. I took a job bathing dogs to help with tuition and living expenses. Soon after they offered to send me to grooming school, I accepted because I figured why not, I was enjoying working with the dogs. Originally I wanted to become a large animal vet but my stomach didn't agree with that when things got yucky. I graduated with my criminology degree in 2007. I then had the opportunity to join the police academy but I slid that to the back burner for a little while as I was really enjoying grooming. And now here we are in 2020 a new business owner. I absolutely love my job and I am beyond excited to finally share my passion with you. My goals are to become a master groomer with my certification through the NDGAA and possibly compete one day. When I'm not at work primping the pups I'm busy trying to keep up with my two girls!
My name is Sarah Potter. I was born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa and moved to Sarasota, Florida on Labor Day of 2023. I have 4 daughters that range in age from 9 to 15 and 2 dogs (a Cane Corso and a Chihuahua). The children are really enjoying our relocation and the dogs appreciate not having to pee outside in the snow. I grew up with a ton of pets, always had dogs but on top of that we also had guinea pigs, a rabbit, salamander, cat, turtle, snake, raccoon, and skunk. I began my post high school education at Des Moines Area Community College and obtained my associate's degree in Business Administration. My most recent position before entering the dog grooming works was The State of Iowa- Child Support Recovery Unit. I decided I was done sitting at a desk talking to angry people and was going to work with dogs instead and did just that! Fast forward a few years and I found myself packing up my grooming supplies and moving to the Sunshine State! I was on the job hunt for a full day, and a few months later Jessica scooped me up and I will forever be grateful for the opportunity she has given me to work in her high end salon. I look forward to serving the dog owners of Sarasota and making their dogs beautiful and happy!
Meet Ava our CEO, a three year old French Bulldog. She is always the first one at the gate to greet all the pups as they come in. Unless of course she is napping which she does most of the day. However she will always wake up for snacks and lots of petting.
Lavish Dog Spa offers one on one cage free grooming. That means we only work on one pet family at a time per groomer, from start to finish. The salon is a completely open concept including the bathing area. The drying room however is a closed off to help contain the flying dog hair.
After your pup is done they can run around free while they wait for you to come pick them up!
Dogs will overlap a little during check in and check out times, so they get a little playdate too. If your pet is senior or prefers not to socialize we do have play pens in the grooming area. They can observe from the safety of their very own 3x3 area with a comfy bed.
